Avast error message restart update#
Prior to disabling fast start, I did a restart as you suggested, and my avast program did update from build 201xxxx to build 202xxxx and I observed a new shortcut to avast on my desktop. I'm using a solid state hard drive so the added time to fully load everything is negligible, just a second or two. I'll find out after the next avast program update, I guess. After researching the distinction between the two processes, I've disabled fast startup so my perception is that the distinction between shutdown/reboot and restart with respect to accomplishing updates no longer pertains. As I noted in my initial post, I'm using Win10. What's going on here?īob3160 - thanks for that education! I've used windows since ver 3.1 and didn't realize that the shutdown/bootup vs restart distinction appeared only in the new versions after win 7. Full PC scanning with avast, as well as with malware bytes and superantispyware show no infections. However, sometimes the "your computer needs restarting" is still present but usually it's no longer present. After restart and boot, when I again right click on the avast icon and select update/program, the same program version, build # and date, is displayed as was noted prior to the restart. In all cases, there's been no OS notification or indication the the PC needs to be restarted at the Start button. Many times over the months I've restarted the PC to see what happens. I would think that since I've restarted my PC 7 times since then, if a newer program version had been downloaded and was awaiting installation on restart, I shouldn't be receiving the message that the installed version is up to date and I should be seeing an updated program or build # and a more current date. At present, the installed program version is dated April 1st. However, all this time, below that part of the display, the message "your computer needs restarting" is displayed.

However, if I manually right click on the icon and open the Update/Program choice, the program displays the currently installed version, properly checks for an update, and indicates that the installed version is up to date. Green "You Are Protected" always appears when hovering over the icon in the system tray. The PC boots and loads Avast and everything else it should normally, no error messages, warnings, etc. For the past month or two, I've observed the following situation - I shut down the PC every day and restart it the next day.
